The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of Passau invites applications for the tenured civil-service post of

Professorship of Historical Education and Public History (pay grade W2)

to start at the earliest opportunity.

You will represent the fields of historical education and public history in research and teaching. A focus on education-related historical research is required. The didactics (teaching method)modules you will be offering are integral to the teacher education programmes with history asa teaching subject. Furthermore, you will offer modules on public history in the educational sciences area and in all degree programmes in which history is included as a subject. You are expected to keep developing your research activities in the aforementioned areas to gain and maintain recognition in Germany and in the international arena. You should have strong expertise in subject-specific teaching and learning research, which you will use to form a bridge between the educational and historical sciences. To this end, we expect of you proactive engagement in interdisciplinary research projects and a willingness to play an active role in the Teacher Education Centre (ZLF) as well as participation in interdisciplinary projects aimed at the further development of teacher education. Research interests in the field of digitally supported teaching and learning of history or on issues of digitalisation in public history would be desirable. Experience in the acquisition and implementation of externally (third-party)funded research projects would be an advantage. Finally, you should provide proof of having obtained the necessary qualifications for employment as a history teacher at a German state school and evidence of having worked at least three years at a school or comparable educational institution. An exemption from this is possible if there are sufficient grounds for it.

The Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies is a research-strong, dynamic faculty that stands out for the interdisciplinary and international nature of its research and teaching as well as its wide range of degree programmes and courses. The subject areas cultural and media studies, humanities and Catholic theology are characterised by thematic, methodological and spatial diversity in teaching as well as in basic and applied research.

The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research and subsequent academic achievements. He or she will, furthermore, possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position, or by leading a junior research group under the conditions specified in Art. 98(10) sentence 5 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG); the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system. In accordance with Art. 60(3) sentence 1 BayHIG, candidates must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment.
